Say Goodbye to Frumpy

Let’s be honest—we’ve all seen outfits that make us do a double-take… and not in a good way. They look tired, shapeless, or just plain outdated. The truth is, looking put-together isn’t about spending a fortune or dressing like a fashion model. It’s about avoiding a few common missteps that can quietly shout frumpy.

Here are 3 style mistakes that might be dragging your look down—and what to do instead:

1. Wearing Clothes with No Shape

  • I see it all the time: women hiding under oversized, shapeless clothing thinking it’ll help disguise what they don’t love about their bodies. But here’s the thing—baggy doesn’t hide anything, it just hides you.

  • Wearing clothes that fit your body (not cling, not drown—just fit!) will instantly elevate your look.

  • And let’s stop obsessing over the number on the tag—no one sees it but you. What people do notice? How your clothes fit and how confident you look in them.

2. Wearing the Wrong Bra

  • Yep, I’m going there. The right bra can change everything—your shape, your posture, even how your clothes hang on your body.

  • A good rule of thumb? Your bustline should hit about halfway between your shoulder and your elbow (try the arm trick in a mirror!).

  • Weight shifts of just 5–10 pounds can change your size, so if it’s been a year or more since your last fitting, it’s time. Go to a department store or specialty boutique and get a proper measurement. Trust me—your whole wardrobe will thank you.

3. Wearing Heavy or Outdated Shoes

  • Your shoes anchor your entire outfit—and the wrong pair can make you look frumpy in a flash.

  • Chunky, outdated, or overly worn shoes drag the eye down and can throw off your whole silhouette.Instead, choose styles that are sleek and polished: a modern ballet flat, a neutral sandal, or a structured mule.

  • Comfort matters, but so does style. If you need support (I get it—I wear a brace when needed!), choose options that blend function with form.

Bonus Equation:

Flowy + Flowy = Frumpy

Too much fabric = too little structure. Here’s the fix: pair a flowy piece with something fitted.

  • Loose top? Pair it with tailored jeans or a pencil skirt.

  • Flowy pants or wide-leg trousers? Add a more structured or tucked-in top.

  • Balance is key—and it makes a huge difference.

You don’t have to completely overhaul your closet to avoid frumpy. Just a few smart adjustments can help you look more polished and feel more confident every day.
